Bound in full brown calf with gilt stamped red morocco spine label, tooled around borders and on spine. Crown of spine worn down, joints starting near top. Binding has the binder's name stamped on spine end, Frederick A. Mayo who was Thomas Jefferson's last binder. Stamp of Thomas H. Bayly of Mount Custis near Drummondtown, VA. on the front flyleaf. Bayly studied law at the University of Virginia, graduating in 1829. He was elected to the U.S. House of Representatives in 1844 and served till his death in 1856. COHEN 5744. SWEM 11929.
