First edition. 8vo. xi, 397 pp. Illustrated from photographs, plates, portrait frontispiece of Alexander Smyth (1765-1830), for whom the county is named. A general in the War of 1812, Smyth served in the U.S. Congress, 1817-1825 and 1827-1830. Gilt on spine mostly faded away, else very good. Original gilt-stamped burgundy cloth. (10862). Item #64650
