HISTORY OF THE DOMINION OF THE ARABS IN SPAIN.; Translated by Mrs. Jonathan Foster

London: Henry G. Bohn, York Street, Covent Garden, 1854. First edition in English (originally published Madrid, 1820-21). 12mo. 3 volumes: (2), xi, (3), 511; xv, 493; xi, 475 pp. Frontispiece and half-title to volume one. "Historia de la Dominacion de los Arabes en Espana" was the author's magnum opus and was published posthumously; Conde (1766-1820) "completed only the first volume before his death. Juan Tineo compiled volumes two and three from the author's manuscript. The work was translated into German (1824-1825), French (1825), and English (1854). Although it has been superseded by other works, Conde's work stimulated others in the same field and in the context of time it was considered a valuable work" (Wikipedia). Very good. Contemporary half calf and marbled boards (a little rubbed, edges bumped), spines richly gilt with ornaments and rules, leather spine labels, marbled endpapers and edges. (11126). Item #64146
