With the ownership signature, "John Holly," on the front endpaper, flyleaf (dated 1803), and title page; a second ownership statement, "Agrippa Martin's Book bought North-East Sept. 15 1807 of John Holley price $1.25 cents," also appears on the flyleaf. A Milton John Holley (1771-1836) studied surveying with Samuel Moore in Salisbury, Connecticut; by 1796 he was in Ohio doing surveying work for the Connecticut Land Company. He returned to Dover, New York, to manage his father's business interests, amassing a sizable library [cf. Robert Gordon's "A Landscaper Transformed: The Ironmaking District of Salisbury, Connecticut," Oxford U. Press, 2001, p. 65]. EVANS 30810. RINK 2385.
