The following curious prophecy will be found on p. 427 of Vol. II: 'One of these days the Northern and Southern powers will fight as vigorously against each other as they both united to do against the British.'" With the elaborate gilt-stamped red morocco bookplate of Edward Hailston (1818-1890) in the first volume; Hailstone, a solicitor, "accumulated a remarkable collection of antiquities and books, among them the most extensive series of works relating to Yorkshire ever brought together" (DNB).
