SIMONDS & WAINWRIGHT, Chemical and Mining Engineers and Analysts. Report of North Carolina Property [cover title, with "Clegg Mine" added just below in pencil].

NY: Simonds & Wainwright, April, 1901. Carbon typescript of the report, on S&W company letterhead, unsigned by the company's preparing engineer. 4to. Title page, (6) pp. [rectos only]. Illustrated with a pen-and-ink cross view of the mine and two mounted photographs, picturing the hoisting engine building at the shaft entrance and miners at work at the bottom of the 175 foot shaft. History, features, and assessment of a Chatham County copper mine, worked since its discovery in the late 1850s, concluding that the 395 acre property would be well-worth further development, the report prepared for its owner, J. N. Gorman of the Virginia M. & M. Co. of Richmond, Virginia. Laid in is a carbon copy of a further report on the mine, a 2-page letter, also unsigned, sent six months later in October, 1901. Cf. H.M. Babiker "Geology of the Clegg Mine and Vicinity" (unpublished master's thesis, N.C. State University, 1978). Very good. Brad-bound light blue wrappers. (10287). Item #63831
