CARRIER BOYS' ADDRESS FOR THE YEAR A.D. 1857. [Caption title].

[Canada: np, 1857]. 37.5 x 32 cm. Broadside on silk, two columns of verse, surrounded by two columns of ornaments, in bottom decoration: "Vivat Regina." Bottom, below border, frayed. Slight staining, very good. Curiously, without the name of the newspaper, but while speculative, appears certainly to be Canadian, based upon "Vivat Regina" and some of the verse, for instance an allusion "From Quebec to Lake Erie," and the critique of American politics: "It will tell how the Yankees/ A playing queer pranks is,/ Blustering and thundering wherever they can--/ Finding Cuba too near,/ To Nicaragua they steer..." And more. Not in Lande. Not in Staton & Tremaine. Lande does list a few silk Canadian carrier boys' addresses. Item #63718

Price: $750.00
