TRAVELLERS MAP OF LONG ISLAND

New York: J.H. Colton & Co., 1857. Folding hand colored map, 21 x 56 cm. on a 24 x 59 cm. sheet, enclosed in a decorative border and tipped into a gilt and blind stamped brown cloth folder. Front cover of folder decorated in gilt and with title "Map of Long Island" stamped in gilt, publisher's ad laid down on front pastedown. Colton's 1855 copyright notice printed in the lower right corner of the map. Upper margin of the map, above the neatline, slightly trimmed, possibly to remove an ownership name (some remnant of ink lettering remains). Some glue residue at left margin of the map where it is tipped into the folder, neat archival repair on verso of one fold at the far right margin, else crisp. Item #63639
