Life on the Front Royal, Virginia, plantation Bel Air during the Civil War years, an "accurate chronicle of life in a Virginia home of the Sixties, portraying the influence of the war upon those in that home and showing to what extent normal living could continue under such difficulties, as well as how love and faith could triumph over the discouragements of those trying times" (foreword). Nevins II, p. 183: "Descriptive of life in Front Royal, Va., during the 1860s." OCLC locates eight copies (Library of Congress, Duke, Clements, Tennessee State Archives, Virginia Historical Society, Virginia, Randolph College, Library of Virginia). Still a good solid copy, with the defect noted. Original cloth-tape backed three-color decorated tan wrappers (rubbed, some wear at the extremities, especially along spine joints and ends).
