The first four volumes of this long running periodical (ceased publication in 1960). 8vo. 4 volumes: (4), 466, 31; (4), 320, 32-101; (4), 304, 102-130; (4), 320 pp. Errata slip to volume four. Editorial paragraphs: "We send out our first number with the firm conviction that those who are interested in vindicating the truth of Confederate History will sustain [this] enterprise and make it a complete success." Many articles published for the first time from original manuscripts. Each volume with the ownership signature of Samuel H. Buck (1846-1929) who served as a junior officer in the Confederate army in Kentucky and Tennessee under Gen. Bragg and as a colonel and staff aide under Gen. Sterling Price in the Trans-Mississippi; following the war he became a lawyer, then a cotton merchant and postmaster in New Orleans, and finally head of a brokerage firm in New York. Bound behind the text of the first three volumes, in parts as issued, appears: "A Roster of General Officers, Heads of Departments, Senators, Representatives, Military Organizations, &c., &c., in Confederate Service during the War Between the States" by Charles C. Jones (Richmond: Southern Historical Society, 1876; 8vo. 130 pp.); "still useful, in spite of several factual gaps" (Nevins II, p. 173). Nicholson, pp. 824-825 and 432. South to Posterity, p. 218.
