Curry (1825-1903), a native of Georgia, grew up in Alabama and served in the Mexican War, the Alabama state legislature, and the U.S. House of Representatives (1857-1861), before joining General Joseph Wheeler's staff during the Civil War; he became an advocate for public education following the conflict. Nevins II, p. 172: "Essentially a defense of secession and an outline of the political history of the Confederacy; moderate tone, pleasant style, but superficial substance." Not in Nicholson.
