(4), iii, xi, 83, (1, contents), 94, 151, (2, contents), (1, publisher's ad) pp. Ownership signature "Solon Stevens / Portsmouth [N.H.] Feb. 1805" on dedication page; a native of Exeter, N.H., Stevens (1778-1809) graduated from Dartmouth in 1798, read law, and practiced in Exeter until 1808, serving for some time as secretary of the Southern New Hampshire Bar Association; he removed to Boston in 1808 only to die shortly thereafter. Later ownership signature "J. H. Bingham [also an early 19th-century N.H. lawyer] / 1810" on front pastedown. American Imprints 2199. Thornton 4056. "Cohen Bibliography of Early American Law" 2409: "Reprint of an English treatise. Marvin indicates that it was edited by F. X. Martin," a New Bern printer and bookseller. Rather widely held in research libraries (OCLC locates 39 copies), but scarce in trade, this being only the second copy we've offered. Very good copy in an attractive new binding.
