ROBINSON BODY WORKS, CUSTOM BUILT TRUCK BODIES, WINDSOR, VIRGINIA. A GROUP OF PHOTOS DISPLAYING THE COMPANY'S WIDE VARIETY OF TRUCK BODIES AND REFRIGERATED VAN BODIES.

Windsor, VA: [the company], nd [1950s-1960s]. Approx. 185 black & white photos, most 8 x 10 in., with a few slightly smaller, of the truck bodies, interior and exterior, manufactured by the Robinson Body Works. Most of the photos are in plastic display sleeves, in worn ring binders (most with covers detached). The images are all very good, clear.
Mills Herbert Robinson, Jr. (c.1917-2001) founded the company in Windsor, Virginia in 1939, and operated it for over 50 years. One of his business cards is laid down in the front of one of the albums. Several of the photos have a small typed description inserted in the plastic sleeve holding the photo, describing the dimensions, flooring, door options, etc. available. The custom-made models were meant to be work trucks, as is evident from the photographs showing signage for various types of businesses (furniture, meat delivery, appliance delivery, etc.) on many of the images. Item #63248

M.H. Robinson initially created the business to produce lawn furniture and decorative yard items, but quickly turned to the manufacture of farm carts and wood-frame bodies for farm trucks. Later he produced steel, then aluminum custom-made truck bodies as the technology changed. By 1976, the company was also manufacturing ambulances, a business carried on by his son Tom. [see: "Keep it at Home," an article by Judi Tull in the Windsor "Daily Press," June 29, 1994]. In addition to running his truck body manufacturing business, M.H. Robinson also served as mayor of Windsor, Virginia from 1963-1990, according to his obituary in the Windsor "Daily Press" newspaper on August 11, 2001. A town park is named after him.
