Who'll Have the Specie? [printed title below image].

New York: Printed & Publd. by H. R. Robinson, 1837. First edition. Hand-colored lithograph, 12 x 17 7/8 inches (image size: 10 x 14 3/4 inches). President Van Buren (presented as a monkey) taunts British Prime Minister Lord Woodbury (a bulldog chained to his dog house) while French King Louis Phillippe (a cock) comments, their concern being the recent American rules requiring trade duties and tax payments of less than $10 to be paid in gold and specie. Robinson (?-1850), earned the title "Printmaker to the Whigs," for his unfailing support, through his illustrations, trade cards, caricatures, and cartoons, of that party’s policies and aims. OCLC notes three locations (Library of Congress, American Antiquarian Society, Clements). Very good. (9829). Item #63114
