The Decay of Bulldogism: "Secret" Chapters in Yale Football History.

Sewickley, PA: The New Fraternity, (c1930). First edition, a collected edition of the author's earlier writings on the subject of Yale football, primarily written for periodicals. 8vo. 4, (4), [9]-264 pp. Illustrated from old posters, advertisements, and line drawings. Laid in is a 1948 pamphlet by the author, bringing his expose of Yale football up-to-date, while providing a price list of available titles in his long bibliography. Almost all of Gundelfinger's writings were intended warnings against a moral decline at Yale, exemplified by the consistent losing record in the school's football program. Gundelfinger (1884-1974) graduated from Yale's Sheffield School in 1906, earned a Ph.D. in math there in 1909, and taught in the school's Mathematics Department from 1909 to 1913; he later taught at the University of Pittsburgh and at Carnegie Institute of Technology; his campaign against Yale football lasted into the 1950s and included a lawsuit brought against him by the school in 1939. Very good. Original white-stamped decorated blue cloth, in the 1939 separately issued decorated dust jacket (a little edgeworn, spine ends a little frayed), printing updated information on the verso. (9724). Item #63043
