Blount (1749-1800), a signer of the Constitution from North Carolina, removed to the state's western lands and became the Governor of the Southwest Territory, 1790-1796, and served one of Tennessee's first U.S. Senators, 1796-1797; embroiled in various western land schemes, he was impeached for his questionable actions but he was not convicted by the Senate and died during a Knoxville epidemic two years later.
