Biography of the American general and future president through the end of the Mexican War; a native of Virginia, Taylor (1784-1850) was raised near present-day Louisville, Kentucky, and established his family home near Baton Rouge, Louisiana, in the 1820s. After service in four wars (War of 1812, Black Hawk War, Seminole Wars, and Mexican War), Taylor was elected President of the United States in 1848, but died mid-term in 1850.
