First edition. 8vo. v, [3]-178 pp. Illustrated with five plates, frontispiece portrait of the subject and four facsimiles of documents. Milledge (1757-1818), a Georgia native, served in many capacities during the Revolution (ending as a colonel in the Georgia militia), in various Georgia offices, as a member of the U.S. House of Representatives (1792-1793, 1795-1799, and 1801-1802), as Governor of Georgia (1802-1806), and as U.S. Senator (1806-1809). Milledgeville, Georgia, the state capital, 1804-1868, was named for him. Dust jacket title: "Correspondence of John Milledge: Revolutionary Soldier, Governor of Georgia, United States Senator." Inscribed on the front endpaper by the editor in 1951. Georgia themed bookplate on verso of front endpaper, another bookplate on the front pastedown, else very good.
