Hunting experiences in the Cascade Mountains and other western sites as recorded in a series of 50 photographs, 4 3/4 x 6 3/4 inches, picturing a variety of western big game, deer, bears, and elk, alive and cornered or treed and about to be shot (at least two seem to be staged), all save one with hunters pictured (9 photographs), and bagged (24, almost all picturing hunters with rifles, showing off a trophy); 3 photographs picture the hunters' pack train ascending mountain trails toward hunting grounds, 13 picture views of the hunting grounds, primarily mountain rivers, brooks and waterfalls, and one pictures a dozen sage hens, taken for the table and displayed in camp.

Cascade Mountains and Spokane, Washington, and Montana: nd [ca. 1920]. Photograph album. Oblong 4to photograph album (7 x 10 inches), "Photographs" gilt-stamped on upper board, all of the photographs captioned in white ink on the album leaves, below the images (the captions have been taken from identical notes on the verso of each of the photographs). Almost all of the photographs were taken in the Cascade Mountains in Washington and Oregon; two, picturing the elk, were taken in Montana, and another was taken in northern California. An excellent photograph album built around the hunting trips of Spokane, Washington, businessman Percy Powell, from his teenage years to adulthood; Powell was general manager of the Powell-Sanders Wholesale Grocers in Spokane, Washington, from the late 1910s. The photos are affixed to the album leaves by two corners (one is badly worn, several others are a little chipped or creased), the images mostly dark and sharp. Contemporary gilt-stamped black photograph album, tied. (8879). Item #61926
