Experiences, 1800-1815, in what were then the Missouri and Arkansas territories. Sabin 33921: "There having been some insinuations that the work was a fabrication, the author, in the third edition, addressed a note to his publishers, referring to Colonel Aspinwall and others, as certifying to the authenticity of the work." Howes H-813. Wagner-Camp 24: "His account of life among the Kansas and Osage Indians and his experiences on the prairies sound entirely credible." Field (the 1824 edition). Somewhat later three-quarter leather and marbled boards (joints and spine ends rubbed, edges and corners bumped), gilt title and ornaments between raised bands on spine, floral endpapers.
