An Inquiry into the Nature and Results of the Anti-Slavery Agitation, with a View at the Prospect before Us, by a Citizen of Alabama.

Mobile, AL: Prietnd [sic] by Dade, Thompson & Co., 1851. First edition, Part I [all published]. 8vo. 50 pp. A spirited defense of slavery from the overbearing zealotry of the abolitionists. Caption title: "The Prospect Before Us." Apparently not in Sabin. Ellison 765. OCLC locates one copy with the printed wrappers (Birmingham/Jefferson Co. Public), but three others (Virginia, North Carolina, Rochester) under the caption title, with an attribution to John C. Calhoun, based on the printing of "Mr. Calhoun's Resolutions" on the final two pages. Another issue, "by a citizen of the south" and without the "Part I," was issued the same year in New Orleans (OCLC locates two copies of that issue: New York Historical Society, Michigan). A number of leaves heavily foxed, other foxing, but a very good copy. Original printed light green wrappers (a little soling and edgewear). (8498). Item #61666
