Adams was serving as the Minister Plenipotentiary to the Court of Berlin at the time of travels through Silesia, a region in central Europe, now mostly in Poland, with parts in Germany and the Czech Republic; the first part describes a six-week tour and gives observations on the people, places and customs, with the second part giving a detailed historical, geographical, and statistical account of the area. Smith A11: "Few men of the early United States were so widely traveled as J.Q. Adams." Very good. Contemporary calf, leather label and gilt rules and ornaments on spine (rubbed, darkened, and a bit flaked), all edges sprinkled red and blue. (#8362). Item #61133
