Jamison (1810-1864), a native of the Orangeburg District, attended South Carolina College and spent two years practicing law, but spent most of his life as a planter, serving for a decade in the state legislature and pursuing historical studies when he had time; Jamison served as president of the South Carolina secession convention in December, 1860 (see DAB).
