Harshaw, WI: 1908-1909. Oblong 8vo (5 3/4 x 7 1/2 inches). 2 volumes: 25 photographs, each 3 3/4 x 4 3/4 inches, mounted one to a album leaf, rectos only, for each album (a total of 50 photographs). Photographic essay documenting two camping trips made by a group of outdoorsmen in successive years in the woods and on a lake near Harshaw in northern Wisconsin, just south of Michigan's Upper Peninsula. The 1908 album includes seven group photos in different outdoor settings, including one with shotguns all around, images of local farmers and their rather primitive homes, views of the lake, canoeing on the lake, two of the party with a hunting dog, one of the party with his fishing rod and a large northern pike, and a still life of a rabbit and a brace of grouse. The 1909 album includes nine group photos in different outdoor settings, three with shotguns present, two photographs with snow on the ground, including one showing two of the party fishing in a stream; several showing members of the party at camp chores, including washing clothes, several images of their small log cabin, a still life showing several brace of grouse and a long string of trout and bass, an image of two of the party holding a string of trout and bass, with fishing rod and pail in hand, another showing one of the party, with shotgun, holding several brace of grouse, others showing posed shots with shotguns and a whitetail antler rack, and other camp scenes.
