Developing a fish hatchery, as seen in a pen-and-ink montage of four scenes, original artwork prepared for an advertisement or to illustrate a periodical story about the enterprise.

NP: np, nd [1880s?]. Well executed pen-and-ink montage on art paper, with washes in gray and black and white highlighting, the whole 16 1/4 x 10 1/4 inches, with four scenes: the bottom third is a rendering of a fish farm, with buildings, sluices, and holding ponds; the drawing in the upper left shows a couple and a single lady sitting on benches under trees beside a water-lily covered pond, the upper right drawing pictures three workers at a hatchery trough, and a central drawing shows a worker feeding the fish in a holding pond in the foreground of a stand of woods, with two couples observing; a vignette of a folded fly rod and creel hangs to the left edge of the central drawing. The unsigned artwork seems to have been produced to illustrate an advertisement or article on fish farming. Traces of mounting on verso, else very good. (#7970). Item #60766
