Philadelphia: J. B. Lippincott & Co., 1870. Original brown pebbled cloth with title and author stamped in gilt on spine. Worn on edges and spine ends, with a nick top of spine. Inscribed by Admiral George Belknap to his son: "To my darling little son Prescott Hartford Belknap Sept. 23 1870 Geo. E. Belknap." During the Civil War Admiral Belknap commanded the Canonicus under rear Admiral D. Porter which was used in attacks againt Ft. Fisher, then with Dahlgren's fleet off Charleston, SC. His son Prescott seems to have written a poem celebrating William Walker. Item #60693
