Lithographed poster, with hand coloring, 34 1/2 x 27 inches, featuring portraits of James Garfield and Abraham Lincoln, each flanked by scenes of their assassinations on the left and scenes of the two Presidents on their death beds to the right, with caption titles for each. Printmakers Haasis & Lubrecht specialized in "incident-rich" tributes (McNeely & Holzer "The Union Image," UNC Press, 2000). They produced maps and pictorial images of Civil War generals and political leaders from the second half of the 19th century. OCLC lists two variants of this poster: Harvard, slightly larger, published by Charles Lubrecht only; and Indiana, with Garfield's portrait and the two scenes flanking Lincoln differing from the ones in this copy. Good copy of a rare poster featuring the two Presidents assassinated in the 19th century. The poster has been professionally deacidified, with small losses and tears (some restoration), lined with Japanese paper. (9833). Item #60350
