in a short autograph letter to editor Joseph Benson Gilder, signed by Harris, 28 May 1883. Single sheet, on letterhead stationery of "The Constitution, Atlanta, GA., Editorial Rooms," approximately 90 words. Harris writes Gilder, enclosing the notice for "Dialect Tales" [not present] and asking Gilder for a copy of the “’Folklore Journal,’ "(recently mentioned in ‘The Critic’) which contains the article about the Rabbit, But if it is the least trouble, I don’t want it. My kindest regards to Miss Gilder.” Harris was employed at the Atlanta Constitution, 1876-1900; he published his "Uncle Remus" stories there first, before collecting them in a book. Joseph Benson Gilder and his sister Jeannette Leonard Gilder, siblings to Richard Watson Gilder, were editors of the literary monthly review, "The Critic." Item #60230
