Catalogue of the Selous Collection of Big Game in the British Museum (Natural History)

London: Trustees of the Museum, 1921. First edition. 8vo. vii, 112pp. Heavily annotated in ink by American businessman and big-game hunter George L. Harrison, Jr., his marginal notes giving sizes of his trophies against those in the Selous collection; at the end of the preface Harrison has written a note concerning a conversation with Selous about the collection. The catalogue has two sections, the first describing 443 specimens from Africa, the second 81 specimens from Europe Asia, and North America. Czech Africa, p. 49: "Though this is more of a zoological work, Dollman included several hunting excerpts from Selous' books and journal articles to highlight the descriptions of the species displayed." Harrison's bookplate on front pastedown, a very good copy of this important catalogue, with a wonderful association. Original brown cloth, gilt spine title. (7349). Item #60124
