Full contemporary red straight-grained morocco, covers paneled and decorated in gilt, spine richly gilt, with raised bands and gilt title, gilt inner dentelles. All edges gilt, with a colored painting of “St. Martin’s Church, Canterbury,” hidden under the gilt fore-edges; St. Martin’s was the first church founded in England and the oldest parish church in continuous use. Contemporary ownership inscription on the front free endpaper, from one John Whaley to his god daughter. A very nice copy. Item #59861
