The statue of Robert E. Lee astride his horse in Lee Park, Charlottesville, Virginia, as seen in a photograph taken about the time of its unveiling.

Charlottesville, VA: [ca. 1924]. Photograph, 9 7/8 x 7 7/8 inches, picturing the statue that was conceived by Henry M. Shrady, completed by Leo Lentelli, and presented to the city of Charlottesville in 1924 by Paul G. McIntire, to serve as the centerpiece to the one-acre midtown park previously donated by McIntire in 1917; in the background is a nearby building under construction or renovation with scaffolding on two sides and looking at the statue is a well-dressed man in his mid-60s, about the age McIntire would have been in 1924. The image is a little toned, but very good. (#7125). Item #59841
