BAL 11537: "If DeKay says or said that he contributed one line of writing or drawing to the 'Book of Copperheads,' he is a liar … this is a true account of the book: [Charles G. Leland] drew all of the pictures, except No. 24, which was drawn by my brother … [Leland] wrote all of the verses, except four by Frank Wells, and four by G.H. Boker, and three by E.S. Rand," taken from a letter written by Leland to Edward McPherson. Spine with old tape repair (partly removed), closed tear across center of rear wrapper, but a fine copy internally.
