London: E. Gumbert & Co., nd [ca. 1825]. Two etched game cards, 10 x 13 3/4 inches (6 x 9 to plate marks), each illustrated along the top with six animals or game birds, some having been shot in their natural habitat, with space provided below to record the day's kills; one of the cards is marked "No. 3." "Already in the 1820s, [Edwin Landseer] produced designs for the game cards on which the Duke of Bedford's guests at Woburn Abbey recorded their kills. Hares, pheasants, and other creatures were pictured at the split second of the shot, while in the last scene the Duke's [hunting] wagon wound its way home" (Picturing Animals in Great Britain, 1750-1850," by Diana Donald; Yale U. Press, 2007). Very good. Unused, but a little soiled. (#6836). Item #59491
