NP [Territory of Montana]: np, 1865. Small receipt, partially printed on lined paper, completed in manuscript, measuring 12 1/2 x 8 cm. Printed on one side only. A very nice example of an early Montana Territory printing. The Territory of Montana was formed in May 1864, with Virginia City as its capital. Gold had been discovered in the area as early as 1863. No doubt the need for a "House of Entertainment" was recognized by this enterprising pair of entrepreneurs. Although we found no evidence of a Point of Rocks County, this could refer to an area near the Beaverhead River in southwestern Montana. Item #58009
