Elberon, NJ: np, 1881. Printed broadside, 9 x 7 1/8 inches, the text printed within a wide black mourning rule, crossed at the corners. Garfield's death occurred some ten weeks after a disgruntled former supporter, Charles Guiteau, shot him twice at the Baltimore & Potomac Railroad Station in Washington, D.C. Doctors were unable to find the second bullet and an infection ensued, weakening his heart and causing his ultimate demise; Bliss, Hamilton, and Agnew were Garfield's attending physicians.
