(2), lxxviii, 186, (30) pp. Engraved frontispiece, six engraved chapter head and tail-pieces. Without the 15 plates issued with the first edition and sometimes in this one. Gaskell 27: "The fifteen plates appear (when found) to have been printed from the copper-plates used in 1761, now more worn. The frontispiece is recut." Lowndes: "This is considered the best translation of Aesop." Contemporary mottled calf, gilt, a thin double-rule framing the boards, red morocco label and gilt rules between raised bands on spine, striking marbled endpapers. Small ownership label of Camille Rater on front pastedown. Rather persistent light foxing, but an attractive copy. (1602). Item #54449
