3 page letter, with 2 enclosures, from the firm of Cary & Co., New York to Hon. S. Hooper, Washington, DC. Dated June 27, 1862. The New York firm gives average spice prices & import duties for the past five years. Samuel Hooper, a congressman from Massachusetts at this time, had begun his career in the import business in Marblehead & Boston, before becoming an elected official. He may have been investigating imports with a view to some legislation he was working on. Very good. Item #5407
