Wilmington, NC: The editors, 1862-1863. Vol 19, Nos. 7 & 43, Oct. 9, 1862 and July 23, 1863 [these two issues only]. Double-folio. Four pages each, folded. Both issues devote much space to war news and commentary, the second with parts of three columns filled with casualty reports from the 3rd, 5th, 13th, 18th and 28th N.C. Infantry Regiments, with many killed and wounded. Also included in the second issue is a long report on the July 18 Second Battle of Fort Wagner on Morris Island, as reported in the Charleston Courier where Confederate troops turned back the African-American soldiers of the 54th Massachusetts led by Col. Robert Gould Shaw who was killed; appended to the article is a list of casualties suffered by the Confederates, but Shaw is not mentioned. The first issue with substantial wear, including separations, along several folds, and old light tidelines, the second rubbed and a little soiled, but very good. For the pair. Item #50854
