Jones served as brigade-major of engineers in the Peninsula during these campaigns. "In this work, [Jones] fearlessly exposed the deficiencies of the engineer service, which he attributed to the ignorance and military incapacity of the board of ordnance" (DNB). Bookplate of Sir Charles Wolseley (1769-1849; reform member of parliament during the 1810s and 1820s) on the front pastedown. Later black three-quarter morocco and marbled boards, endpapers, and edges, gilt title on spine; spine somewhat faded, but a very good copy. (11135). Item #48360
