Discussing details and prices for a pair of portraits in an autograph letter, signed 19 December 1906, from New York City, to a Mr. Sawyer.

New York: 1906. 8vo. 2 pages, approximately 150 words, in part: "Give me a chance to get at it this winter & advance me part of the payment for these fearsome days at the end of the year & I will do them both for $1000." Particularly noted for his murals, Simmons was a native of Massachusetts, graduated from Harvard, and studied under a number of artists in the United States and France. "Strong and direct, his paintings had both simplicity and dignity. He was what is called 'a clean painter,' not given to fumbling or hesitant strokes, but he lacked a profound originality whether in composition or execution" (DAB). Very good. Folded as for mailing.(#7680). Item #48224

Price: $125.00
