Granting a writ of habeas corpus to William L. Carter in a manuscript document, signed 14 March 1865 as judge in the second judicial district of Texas.

Folded as for filing; some minor edgewear. Item #47531

Carter alleged that he was being illegally held by Lt. Robert Burton of "Cowan's Company of the Reserve Corps, of the Confederate States of America." McGinnis ordered Carter to be brought before his court in Caldwell County so that just cause could be shown for Carter's imprisonment. Confederate habeas corpus documents are quite uncommon on the market.

Price: $450.00
