"… Okinawa Apl 1945 / 96th Division USA".

Pen and black ink sketch with blue and gray wash. 14 3/4 x 23 inches, on smooth, heavy drawing paper. A view of fields and a tiled-roof building beside some areas of water (ponds?, shallow sea inlets?), beyond them a prominent hill scattered with trees and a ridge, in which appear to be two dug-in fortifications, all simply sketched with few details suggested. Above "Okinawa" in the identifying script are two words difficult to decipher, possibly giving the particular location of the scene but more likely to name the otherwise anonymous artist, perhaps "Robert Moir". Lightly foxed, brown craft-paper tape partially removed from the edges of the verso. (Item ID: 48434)
