He co-founded the Berlin Galerie Gerd Rosen, the first private art gallery after the war in Germany, was friends with Paul Celan, part of a Surrealist group that included Roberto Matta associated with André Breton, Marcel Duchamp, Ernst and Rufino Tamayo.
